About the Auction

The K-State Travel & Dining Auction is the largest student fundraiser in the College of Human Ecology that is planned and executed by students. 2013 marks the 17th annual auction and for the fourth year the auction will be produced by the Travel & Dining Auction class. This event became a class in 2009 to teach students interested in event planning how to organize and execute a major fundraising event. These Hotel Restaurant Management Program students apply for their auction positions and are chosen to be part of the class with student coordinators leading the entire event. Committees are developed to manage donations, food and beverage, marketing, the event decor, organization, and administrative duties.

Proceeds from the Auction are used to support all Hospitality Management and Dietetics student organizations including:

  • Hospitality Management Society (HMS)
  • Club Managers Association of America (CMAA)
  • Professional Convention Managers Association (PCMA)
  • Student Dietetic Association (SDA)

Each club allocates a portion of their funds for student financial support for traveling to regional and national food, lodging, country clubs, dietetics, conferences along with other student activities.

Travel & Dining Auction 2012: RECORD BREAKING YEAR

The 16th Annual Travel & Dining Auction held in April 13th, 2012 was another huge success for the Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics at Kansas State University. More than 381 loyal human ecology supporters purchased tickets to the gala and enjoyed an evening of passed home-made appetizers, drinking fine Acrobat Pinot Noir and Acrobat Pinot Gris wine from King Estates in Oregon; a K-State Alumni, lively conversations, and furious bidding on over 337 live and silent auction items. New features to the auction was a raffle of two distinct pleasure adventures to Wichita and Kansas City. We also added a cake walk with the winner receiving a Freddy's Frozen Custard Cake.

Alumni and friends of HMD helped us to maintain our financial goals for the event with earnings of $23,600 and donations of items and services from local, regional, and national business in the amount of $39,000.00.

Many of you know these funds are used for many specific purposes including:

  • Tuition scholarships to hospitality management dietetics students
  • Student travel funds to attend the annual National Restaurant Association May conference in Chicago, Ill.
  • Student travel funds to attend the annual National Lodging Association conference in October in New York City
  • Student travel funds to attend the National Student Conference on Club Management in various locations in November
  • Student travel funds to attend the FNCE and Kansas Dietetics Association.

These activities keep the K-State hospitality management and dietetics students in the forefront of educational opportunities and experiences, building leadership skills and more highly qualified employees for the hospitality industry.

We appreciate your continued support and hope you will join us again this year on Friday the 26th of April at our location the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center, 410 S. 3rd Street -- Manhattan, KS; 6:30 pm.
